The route follows the players from the dressing room through the tunnel to the benches, then into the press room and the presidential box, and finishes in one of Madrid’s more interactive sports museums.

The route

Dressing room. The first-team dressing room is set up with shirts on the pegs, and it is the place most visitors want their photo.

Interactive museum. Touchscreens, projections, virtual-reality glasses and games take you through the club’s history from 1903, with more than 400 original objects on show. It is a bigger part of the visit than the word museum suggests. How long it takes

Allow about two hours inside. Atlético estimates one hour for the stadium route and one hour for the museum, and recommends arriving 10 minutes before your time slot. Add the journey out on Line 7 and any time in the club shop, and the visit fills most of a morning or an afternoon. The guided tour follows a set pace; the self-guided ticket lets you go faster or slower.

Best time to visit

The date matters more than the time slot. A weekday morning or late morning on a non-match day is usually the most predictable choice, and the tour opens at 11am. Things to know

The club is clear that the stadium route can be changed or suspended for sporting or organisational reasons, and that bookings on match weekends may shift. Getting there

Practical booking notes

• Book online. The club’s online prices are lower than at the ticket office.
• Pick a non-match weekday for the most predictable visit.

• Suitcases go in a locker. Prams are allowed, but the stadium route has many stairs.
